The cascaded multilevel inverters (MLIs) are suitable topologies when a high number of voltage levels needed. Nonetheless, possess the main drawback power switches and gate drivers that make sophisticated control, reducing efficiency, increasing cost. This article proposes new fundamental switched-diode topology is capable generating five positive-voltage with only three switches, diodes, dc sources. Based on combination n topology, two proposed, which increases decreases stress. proposed can operate in asymmetric sources, so different source magnitudes submitted to minimize components. advantages reasonable sources count comparison other state-of-the-art topologies. Furthermore, reduce cost recent MLI loss analysis recommended application for discussed. simulation experimental works presented verify operation correctness
